SIGGA Knitwear

I worked with a high fashion knitwear designer to debut her boutique collection. Together we developed a simple identity that's unique, elegant, and befitting the industry.

SIGGA KNITWEAR BRAND DESIGN

SIGGA Knitwear employs a clean logomark on garment labels, tags and related adornments. I designed the mark with simplicity at its heart, making it versatile beyond branding for use in marketing, admin and so on.

The mark is a custom typeface presented in a weight that compliments the material thread aesthetic. Indeed, the rhetoric of knitting was a large influence on my design in several ways...

1. The evolution of the logo saw several experimental treatments. This first example captured a lot of movement that was ultimately too chaotic.

2. Another experimental rendition plays with the idea of a looping thread - an almost singular line connecting all the letterforms.

3. The client's vision was more refined; more in keeping with other brands in the space. A paired-back, compressed rendition was the result that changed the course of the design.

4. I produced this uncompressed version next, which became the blueprint for the final mark. It's cleaner, lighter, and feels more balanced.

In addition to the core wordmark I also developed an emblem; a visual signature for the identity adding credence and nuance to both the brand and its products.
The emblem takes the initials of the brand name and reinterprets them as pseudo knitting instruction symbols; specifically cable knit symbols. It's a clever and deceptively straightforward flourish that the client uses subtly.
